Column heading - Clipping from Newspapers.com

I recently got a pleasant surprise as I searched Newspapers.com for mention of my grandparents, Ronald and Ivy Gordon in our local newspapers and discovered a column called “Weddings of Interest” that highlighted the wedding of their daughter Phyllis.  It was written on September 11, 1957.

I enjoyed reading about the ceremony and the description of the bride’s gown, “…a white nylon lace over taffeta, with matching bolero and street length skirt.” And “a shoulder length veil fell from a tiara of white flowers, and she carried a nosegay of white carnations and lily-of-the-valley.”  She must have looked so beautiful.

Much of the column discusses the dresses and accessories of the ladies which included her sister Florence, her mother "Mrs. Gordon", and the groom's mother "Mrs. Fraser."

It seems these days, unless you’re a celebrity, you don't see this kind of local interest story in the paper. It was a nice surprise that made my day while I learned another tidbit of information about my Gordon family.
